The Freedom Gateway
Solo Exhibition, 2022 — Sino Italian Design Exchange Center, Florence.
The Freedom Gateway is a solo exhibition by Sarah Arensi presented within an international institutional framework connecting Italy and China. The project explores freedom as an inner threshold — a process of releasing conditioning and expanding awareness — positioning art as a space for perceptual and existential transformation.
The Freedom Gateway is a site-specific project developed as a space of passage between cultural, symbolic and embodied dimensions of freedom. Conceived for the Sino Italian Design Exchange Center in Florence, the work unfolds as an experiential threshold in which painting and spatial presence invite the viewer into a suspended zone of transition.
The project explores the notion of freedom not as an abstract concept, but as a lived, internal condition — one that emerges through awareness, release and the dissolution of fixed identity. Visual elements function as gateways rather than representations, activating perception and inviting a process of crossing rather than observation.
Developed within the context of cultural exchange between Shanghai and Florence, The Freedom Gateway positions the artwork as a relational field, where movement, presence and memory converge into a shared experience of transformation.
